Highlights

  • Dhofar's most remarkable and popular site with its unspoiled and magical sand dunes.
  • The lost city of Ubar.
  • Frankincense trees.
  • Empty Quarter or Rub Al Khali.

What To Expect

Drive across the Qara Mountains and into Dhofar's Nejd region. With its unspoiled and beautiful sand dunes, Dhofar's the most outstanding and popular attraction.

We strongly suggest it among Salalah Tours and Oman Day Tours in general, and you will return home with memorable memories to share with your family and friends. We stop briefly in Thumrait, which was once known as a Bedouin village. We continue on to the ominous Empty Quarter, also known as Rub Al Khali.

High sand dunes, rising to a height of 250 meters or more, may be found here. From here, we travel to Ubar, the lost city. Ubar was said to have been devoured by the desert. It really sunk under the sands, forming the legendary Atlantis of the Sands. This once-buried metropolis, discovered by satellite, demonstrates the importance of the work done by a team of explorers led by Sir Ranulph Fiennes in 1982.

We pass through Frankincense trees on our way back to Salalah...this is one of the most highly recommended Oman Desert excursions.
