Rules:

  • Climbing over barriers and reaching into enclosures is forbidden for safety reasons.
  • Animals need rest, please avoid shouting, tapping on windows, or similar distractions.
  • Playing loud music or musical instruments or otherwise making excessive noise is not permitted.
  • Dogs and other animals are not allowed on the palace grounds, including the zoo.
  • Bicycles, inline skates, skateboards, scooters etc. cannot be used on the zoo premises. 
  • Ball games, Frisbees etc. are not allowed, and visitors may not bring balloons with them into the zoo.
  • Instructions issued by employees of the zoo must be followed at all times.
  • Prams, strollers, scooters, and bikes cannot be stored.

  • Closing time varies according to the seasons and is between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Entry & Services:

  • Children under 6 years are free of charge at Schonbrunn Zoo.
  • Children under 3 years are free of charge for the Schonbrunn Zoo and Tirolerhof Train Transfer.
  • Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • All animals receive food tailored to their needs. A strict feeding ban is enforced to protect their wellbeing and prevent begging.
  • Visitors can take photos and videos for personal use. Commercial shoots require a permit from zoo management.
  • Assistance dogs (with ID card, immunisation record and official assistance dog harness vest) are permitted.
  • Staff members are entitled to ask any visitors who do not comply with the house rules to leave the zoo.
  • Lockers are available at the info center near the main entrance, free of charge with a 1 Euro deposit. Large lockers are 55x45x34 cm, and small ones are 44x41x35 cm.
  • There are 9 drinking fountains with Viennese mountain spring water in the zoo grounds. 
  • Every toilet facility is equipped with a nappy-changing table.
  • Microwaves for warming baby food are available at Gasthaus Tirolgarten, Kaiserpavillon, Cafe Atelier Nonja, Jumbo Grill, and the beer garden.

By Public Transport:
If travel by public transport, the zoo can be reached by the following routes:

  • U4 (underground): Station Hietzing.
  • Tramway: 10, 52, 60.
  • Bus: 51A, 56A, 56B, 58A.

By Car:
If travel by car, there are two park and ride sites just a few underground stations from the zoo.

  • Park & ride garage.
  • Hütteldorf U4 (underground).
  • Siebenhirten U6 (underground).

Parking lot:

  • There is also a public car park at Seckendorff-Gudent-Weg where a limited number of parking spaces are available. Vehicle access is via Elisabeth-Allee.
