What to expect in the Green Planet in Dubai?

This unique ecosystem houses the world’s largest man-made and life-sustaining tree. The bio-dome has 4 levels of interaction for the visitors with fascinating animal and plant species from sloths, squirrel monkeys and tree porcupines to South American plants, vines, reptiles, fish and insects. The four levels comprise of The Canopy, The Midstory, The Forest Floor and The Flooded Rainforest. Every level has a different set of animals, birds and plant species. Enjoy these four levels of exploration via a spiral walkway around the giant tree.
The Canopy
The Sloth Experience, Green Planet Dubai
The Canopy, which is the top level of the Green Planet Dubai forms the roof of the rainforest and absorbs the sunlight. It stands at an astounding height of approximately 30-45 metres above the ground. One of the ecosystem’s iconic members— the Sloth, is found here. Also, The Bat Cave experience is a part of this level.
The Midstory
Squirrel Monkey, Green Planet Dubai
This is the middle layer of the ecosystem where trees have large leaves designed to absorb any sunlight filtered through the canopy. Here, there is more open space than the level above and more sunlight than the floor below. The highlights of this level are the amusing squirrel monkeys found here. These are new-world monkeys with very long tails and are found throughout South America.
The Forest Floor
Leaf Cutter Ant, Green Planet Dubai
This quiet layer barely receives any light. It is humid and dark. Unlike the other brighter and lively areas, hardly any sunlight reaches the floor of this layer. The newest members of the Green Planet are found here— the Sugar Gliders. Experience the Sugar Glider Encounter as you see these nocturnal animals glide from one tree to another. Another interesting feature of this layer includes the Leaf Cutter Ants. Coming all the way from the rainforests of South America, these tiny colonial creatures are the ones that create those intricate fungal structures.
The Flooded Rainforest
Motoro Ray, Green Planet Dubai
This layer provides the perfect living conditions for all animals. This is because it receives over 3m of rainfall every year, flooding rivers and streams. As much life as there is above the ground, a lot of activity happens below as well. This layer houses various land and water animals, of which the Motoro Rays (one of the unique species of Stingrays found in South America) and Archer Fish are the interesting ones. You can be a part of the Archer Fish demonstration and watch the unique ability to squirt up water up in the air and aim for their prey.
In addition to the sightseeing activities, there are various other things to do here, like the Australian walkabout, Bug Encounter, Bird Encounter, Reptile Encounter and Witness the Piranhas. Visitors can also explore the Bat Caves where they need to follow a unique trail through the bio-dome. You follow a dimly-lit enclosed path with Seba’s short-tailed fruit bats flying around or hanging from crevices in cave walls while enjoying their fruit and nectar diet.
With different creatures moving around here and there and waterfalls gushing about, the Green Planet Dubai is truly an experience for the senses.
