Sharjah’s history is something to be marveled at. Being one of the wealthiest towns in the region, with a cultural background of over 50 decades. Sharjah was declared independent in 1727, as the Qawasim Clan established it as their home. As days and years passed, by the 20th century, Sharjah extended inland to the area between the city and Dhaid, known as Wasit Suburb. Who knew the 15,000 inhabitants with 200 shops, could turn into the vast city of 80 thousand people. With World War II, Nazi propaganda and pro-Hitlerspeeches were heard but quickly dismissed, and the support for the British doubled. If you are a stamp collector, we are pretty sure you have heard about the stamps of Sharjah, issued a short while before the formation of the United Arab Emirates.
Fast forward to 2 December 1971, Sharjah, together with Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, and Fujairah joined in the Act of Union to form the United Arab Emirates.
